The Imagine Team

The Imagine Team was founded by Zakaria Bouguettaya and Andrew Clapham when they designed the app QuicklyPay.it – an app that enables friends to process and share payments for almost anything, from rent, movies, dinner and drinks, to birthday presents and festival tickets! Zakaria and Andrew have now developed more than 60 applications – from ‘MyBus 2.0,’ an app that makes commuting in Canberra easier, to ‘Eco Spectral,’ an app the helps organisations save energy and costs by monitoring the daily energy use in office buildings.

Looking back at his time at university, Andrew is appreciative of the emphasis his degree had on computational theory and fundamental courses: “Initially it seems, why am I learning this theory? I just want to learn to program, but putting in the effort to understand general concepts about programming is far more beneficial when go to learn a new language, which you’ll be doing for your whole career.”

“The work that we do is always about trying to figure out what the best solution is and then work back from that … had we had very specific skill sets in terms of languages, it wold have actually been detrimental to our career,” says Zakaria.

The Imagine Team: Andrew Clapham (Bachelor of Science (Computer Science major) '11), Zakaria Bouguettaya (Bachelor of Software Engineering '12), Imagine Team Founders, with Kate Harcourt-Cooze (Bachelor of Engineering (R&D)/Bachelor of Science '13).
