There are 3 internship projects on offer with ML Research Labs

Project 2: (ML Labs Class of 2022 Challenge 2) Sentiment Analysis via Audio

Background:

Natural language understanding in machine learning usually involves tasks around text such as sentiment analysis, relation extraction and named entity extraction. However, intelligent natural language understanding is more than about text. Spoken language conveys meanings that can not be gleaned from text alone, such as the tone of voice, the silence in between utterances. Besides the audio, body language plays a role in communication. In the hope of one step closer to machine intelligence, our internship challenges aim to solve various pieces of this grand challenge.

Challenge Objective: We focus on the audio-based Emotion Detection. We’d like to detect the Emotions in a speech or a song.

There is a list of dataset. Some of them also have video files, even audio files.

A few interesting dataset:

1, (small, diverse)RAVDESS: this dataset has 1500 audio files and 8 different emotions(neural, calm, happy, sad, angry, fearful, disgust, surprised).

2, (large, diverse)MSP-Podcast corpus: This corpus is annotated with emotional labels using attribute-based descriptors (activation, dominance and valence) and categorical labels (anger, happiness, sadness, disgust, surprised, fear, contempt, neutral and other).

Paper: You may like this DeepMind 2021 paper: perceiver, which is memory efficient and a beautiful idea. Other ideas are also welcome.
