Computing Internship – Windlab

This position is offered through the ANU Computing Internship (COMP3280/ COMP8830)

Company

Windlab Pty Ltd (“Windlab”) is a global renewable energy development company owned by Squadron Energy and Federation Asset Management.

There is one internship project on offer from Windlab.

Project - Data analysis of public wind farm data

Windlab is a wind farm developer. This means we start by looking for new wind farm sites and after we found one, we undertake all the steps necessary to get the wind farm constructed. After the wind farm is constructed Windlab will also manage the wind farm during operation.

Windlab will look for new sites using its proprietary wind mapping technology called Wind Scape. When a potential new site has been located wind measurements will have to be taken to get an accurate view of the wind resource. These measurements can come from measurement devices or operational wind farms.

There is a lot of public data available for wind farms in Australia from the turbine layout using satellite data to generation numbers. In this project you will setup a data pipeline to analyse any wind farm on the grid combining publicly available data and in-house data. This data pipeline will allow the calculation of the wind speed before construction.
