Computing Internship - Windlab Pty Ltd (Project 1)

This position is offered through the ANU Computing Internship

Company

Windlab Pty Ltd (“Windlab”) is a global renewable energy development company owned by Squadron Energy and Federation Asset Management. It was established to commercialise world leading atmospheric modelling and wind energy assessment technology, developed by Australia’s premier scientific research institute, the CSIRO.

There are 2 internship projects on offer with Windlab

Project 1: Automated electricity market data analysis.

Windlab is a wind farm developer and therefore its core business is to achieve the construction of new wind farms. These windfarms sell their power into the national grid and therefore a good understanding of the national electricity grid is important. Apart from a developer Windlab also manages wind farms that are in operation and for this side of the business a good understanding of the national electricity market is critical.

Windlab has large databases that host all the raw data from the National electricity market (NEM). All this raw NEM data needs to be processed in order so it can be interpreted and acted upon. Our current analysis is spread over several different platforms, but we want to concatenate all the analysis functionality in Python.

This project therefore involves using Python to process NEM data into several key metrics.

Required/preferred technical skills or experience in software languages, environments, platforms.

Most of the engineers at Windlab have a good knowledge of python and therefore the processing code needs to be written in python, so we can ensure that the system is maintained after the students leaves.
