Course Representatives are a core part of 'student partnership', a principle to which the University has committed. Each semester, CECC puts a call out for Course Representatives for all Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics courses. Students can nominate themselves for one or more of the courses they are enrolled in. 

What does a Course Representative do?

A course representative is the official liaison between students and the course convenor.

The primary responsibility of a course representative is to provide constructive feedback on issues affecting the entire student cohort, or a subset of the student cohort. 

If there are multiple classes within your course (particularly for the larger courses), you are expected to make yourself known within each class (including introducing yourself to the tutors/convenors).

Benefits of being a Course Representative

Course representatives are enormously beneficial for the student body and the university. It can also be a great opportunity to grow personal and professional skills, including:

• Develop skills sought by employers, such as, interpersonal, dispute resolution, leadership and communication skills.
• Become empowered, play an active role in determining the direction of your education.
• Become more aware of issues influencing your university and current issues in higher education.
• Ensure students have a voice to their course convenor, lecturer, tutors, and college.

You will also receive recognition of your work as a course representative with a certificate.

How is feedback collected?

Course representatives provide an opportunity for students and course convenors to discuss issues in real time, as they arise during the semester. Class survyes have been developed as a way of gathering data and feedback consistently throughout the course and provide the basis for discussion between students, course representatives and course convenors. In addition to the survey processes, course representatives and course convenors are encouraged to establish regular feedback opportunities. Changes can often be accommodated at the time, to improve how the course is running and student's experience of a course. This feedback plays an important role in shaping how courses are running and will run.

Course representatives are appointed at the beginning of each semester through a self-nomination process, facilitated by the course convenor. The course representative role will usually be advertised by the convenor during the first lecture of semester. If you are interested in the role, ensure that you make yourself known to the convenor.
