Space Engineering: Satellite building and advanced space exploration

Join us for Seminars on nano-satellites, cubesats and Advanced Lectures on contemporary space exploration by global experts.
Space Engineering is an immersive series of Seminars and Advanced Lectures that will take place during the semester break in September. Hosted by the School of Engineering within the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), and supported by ANU InSpace.
The Seminars are an opportunity for undergraduate and PhD students to touch on and experience the university-built-size of satellites. The seminars include fundamental lectures on astrodynamics, exercises and introductory virtual tours and exhibits.
The Advanced Lectures on contemporary space exploration will be presented by global experts who will discuss advanced space exploration trends and astrodynamics contexts including robotics in space. We encourage those who have experience or an interest in spacecraft engineering to participate.
Participants of the Seminars will automatically be registered for the in-person Advanced Lectures, at the same venue. Those who wish to attend any of the Advanced Lectures only, will be invited to the venue in-person if capacity allows, or are welcome to join online.

Introduction to the Seminar lecturers
Lecturer: Dr Shinya Fujita, Senior Assistant Professor, Tohoku Univiversity, Japan
Dr Fujita received their PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, in 2019. Since then, he has served as a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Tohoku University. His research interests focus on the attitude control system of microsatellites. Chief System Engineer, ALE-3 project of the ALE, a start-up space company, Japan.
Lecturer: Dr Yuji Sakamoto, Hokkaido University, Japan.
Dr Sakamoto is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Mechanical and Space Engineering, Hokkaido University. He was previously an Assistant Professor (2006-2015), then an Associate Professor (2015-2021), for the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Tohoku University. Dr Sakamoto has a research interest in the areas of: Design, Assembly, and Evaluation of Micro and Nano Satellites, Satellite Operation and Ground Station Management.
Seminar and Advanced Lecture Schedule
It is anticipated that those registering for the Seminars will attend all seminars across the two weeks. These Seminars are targeted at current undergraduate or PhD students who are studying in relevant fields, to extend their knowledge. Seminar participants are encouraged to stay for the Advanced lectures which immediately follow each Seminar.
Advanced lectures can be attended by people with general experience or an interest in spacecraft engineering. It is intended that lectures will be live streamed. If capacity allows, registrants can choose to attend in person, closer to the date.
