Welcome to all new engineering and computer science students at ANU!

Whether you are an international student, from Australia or a Canberra local, attendance at Orientation Week (O-Week) from Monday 13 February 2017 is essential to help you succeed in the early stages of your program.

Attending O-week will help you meet other new students, familiarise yourself with the campus and prepare for study.

From high tea to academic advice sessions, we’ve compiled a shortlist of the must-attend events for new engineering and computer science students, to ensure you get off to the best start at ANU.

Monday 13 February

Vice-Chancellor’s Courses Information Session
1-2pm, Manning Clark Centre, Lecture Theatre 6

This information session will introduce the VC courses and show how they can be taken as electives in most ANU degrees, and as part of the Minor in Leadership and Research, as well as the new Minor, Major and Master of Innovation and Professional Practice.

Tuesday 14 February

College of Engineering and Computer Science Academic Advice Sessions
9.30am – 12pm & 2-4pm, WK Hancock Building – West Wing
Undergraduate engineering and computer science: room 2.24
Postgraduate engineering and computer science: room 2.25

This is your opportunity to receive one-on-one course and program advice from Program Convenors and Student Services advisors.

Wednesday 15 February

Market Day
9am – 4pm, University Avenue through Union Court

Market Day is organised by the ANU Student's Association (ANUSA) and sees University Avenue and Union Court filled with stalls with everything you need to know about settling into life at ANU. You can find out about the many and varied ANU Clubs and Societies and join – including our Engineering Students Association (ESA) and Computer Science Students Association (CSSA).

Discover the ANU Library resources and services available to you in this presentation by a representative from the Hancock Library.

Thursday 16 February

ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science Induction Session
10am-12pm,
All engineering (undergraduate and postgraduate): Seminar Room 1, Science Teaching Building No 136

All computing (undergraduate and postgraduate): Manning Clark Centre

The CECS Induction and Academic Advice sessions are your opportunity to get acquainted with your Academic College and staff, your new environment and most importantly, your class mates - who you will be studying with for the next 2-4 years! If you have any questions or concerns about your course selection or your academic program when you arrive at ANU during O-Week, we would strongly encourage you to join us for this session.  

ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science Networking Lunch
12-2pm, outside CSIT Building

Join representatives from the CECS student associations on a tour of the CECS precinct following the CECS Induction Session.  Learn the tricks of the trade from later-year engineering and computing students - where the best places are to study, which are the main lecture and tutorial rooms you'll be using in your first year and where to grab a great coffee between classes! The tour will conclude with a light lunch and an informal networking event, where you can chat more with other new students, as well as representatives from ESA, CSSA, Fifity50, ANU Sol Invictus and Robal Gals. 

ANU Fifty50 High Tea
2-3.30pm, University Avenue (outside Engineering Building 32)

Fifty50 is thrilled to invite you to attend the O-Week High Tea to welcome all new female and female-identifying students in science, engineering and computer science at the ANU. The High Tea is a fantastic opportunity to meet your peers and get to know some of the Fifty50 mentors and your first year lecturers - all before classes even start! You will be able to sign up to Fifty50’s mentoring program, learn more about how Fifty50 can support you through your degree, as well as provide some ideas for encouraging gender equity within STEM.

Thursday 23 February

College Address: What to expect in 2017 
12-2pm, ANU Sports Hall & Ian Ross Building 31

You’re invited to attend the inaugural College Address to welcome in the new Academic Year, and find out what to expect from CECS in 2017. The College Dean, School Directors and Student Experience Team will update the CECS community on important new developments and initiatives. This will be followed by a talk by one of our Distinguished Alumni, Anne-Maree Englund, on getting the most out of University, the world of work, and where her degree has taken her. From 12.45pm onwards, a barbeque and mini-marketplace will showcase the wide range of student-led extracurricular activities and groups available in CECS, as well as ANU services.

ANU Fifty50 invites you to participate in the inaugural STEM Scavenger Hunt! Trying to find your way around campus and don’t even know what Hancock is? Let us help navigate your way through the first week of Uni and win and range of prizes along the way! Join with a friend or a potential future friend to become better acquainted with campus and learn some trivia about the ANU.
