Community-focused Flood Mitigation and Warning Systems

Collaborators

The Environmental Engineering Cluster at the School of Engineering are working on two projects with the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) focused on flood mitigation through nature-based solutions and community-based flood warning systems.  A number of research projects are available exploring:

  • identifying and evaluating flood-warning technologies for use in Australia
  • identifying and summarising international best practice guidelines for nature-based solutions for the Australian context.
  • identifying benefits and co-benefits of nature-based solutions for river flood management for the Australian context

These topics are part of ongoing research at the ANU over the next 6-18 months with the potential for further involvement and projects.  These projects have a focus on provding greater safety and resilience for communities in Australia to the increasingly variability in climate and flooding and the role of technology to support mitigation, planning, warning and response.

These projects are suitable for ENGN4350 and BE(R&D) (6- or 12-units) courses and potentially 6-unit special topics and ready to commence semester 2, 2022.
