See for yourself at ANU this Open Day

It’s safe to say that uni is an amazing place. I’m sure you’ve already been told about all the great opportunities you’ll find, the lifelong friends you’ll make and all the weird and wacky things that go on. It’s also a place where you’ll try new things, learn a lot and maybe even find your lifelong passion.
But, all of this can be a bit overwhelming when you’re trying to decide which uni to go to, what degree to study, what major to do, where to live, what extra-curricular activities to do…the list goes on! ANU Open Day is the day where you can answer a lot of these questions, get a feel for the ANU, meet some friendly faces and figure out whether this is the place for you.
I promise that no pro-con list will help you make your decision as well as attending Open Day, so here are some of my top reasons why you should come along.
O – Orientation. This is a big one! There are tours available of the ANU and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. There’s no better way to get a feel of the place than having a walk around. For those of you who aren’t local, you’ll learn that Canberra is actually pretty great and an awesome place to go to uni!
P – Pop-Up Village. Suss out the food and coffee scene here on campus. We’re lucky to have the famous Brodburger and some of the best coffee in Canberra only a 5 minute walk from the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
E – Eat! There’s always free food on Open Day, and there’s always free food to be found on campus. As a uni student, you’ll develop a 6th sense for free sausage sizzles.
N – New student advisory sessions. Have a chat to course advisors and lecturers in person. They have all the information you’ll need about the degrees and can point you in the right direction if you feel confused or unsure.
D – Displays. STEM Avenue and Student Displays will allow you to see what students really get up to and you can get stuck in to some activities too. This is the sort of experience you can’t get by flicking through glossy brochures.
A – Accommodation. There are lots of different accommodation options at the ANU and they all offer something a little different. Meeting current residents and having tours of the accommodation will help you find your fit.
Y – You can meet current students. Who better to talk to than people who were in exactly the same position as you a few years ago?! These are the people who can talk to you about what it’s really like to study here, extracurricular activities, and other experiences such as exchange.
These reasons to attend Open Day are only the tip of the iceberg! Even if you are only starting to think about university, there is something at Open Day for you.
Good luck and hopefully I’ll see you there!
