College of Engineering and Computer Science ANU PhD Scholarships - International


The College of Engineering and Computer Science invites prospective Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students to apply for an ANU PhD/University Research Scholarship/Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship (International) to support their Doctor of Philosophy or Master of Philosophy program of study. The College offers research in a wide range of disciplines including the Engineering theme areas of Energy, Fabrication, Information and Materials and the Computer Science theme areas of Intelligence, Systems and Theory.

Each scholarship will provide a full stipend for three years, with the possibility of a six-month extension after that period. The scholarship includes additional benefits including relocation expense reimbursement and an additional sum to cover costs associated with the production of the final PhD thesis. PhD students in the College work very closely with an academic supervisor and a panel of advisers with expertise in their chosen field of research. They also have the opportunity to access a broad range of specialist courses, attend seminars, conferences and summer schools, and to contribute to various undergraduate teaching activities. To support these activities, all PhD students in the College have access to $6000 AUD of professional development funding for the duration of their candidature.

Potential applicants should start by reviewing the pre-application process as per the College website. Once the applicant has secured support from aprospective supervisor in their research area they should review the instructions on the ANU application procedure, and submit their application via the ANU Application portal for either a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy program. 

The deadline for complete applications to be submitted is August 31, 2018.

Please note that a complete application includes:

  • An application submitted through the ANU application portal
  • A current CV
  • Research proposal
  • Colour copies of all transcripts and completion certificates of prior study, in original language and official English translations
  • 3 complete referee reports (Referees are nominated through the application portal). 

Applications that are incomplete at the closing date will not be considered for scholarship under any circumstances. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you submit your application at least two weeks prior to the closing date to give your referees time to submit their reports.

To be eligible to be considered for admission to a postgraduate research degree at ANU, you must:

a) Already hold, or be about to complete, an Australian Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class Honours - Upper (First Class Honours is often required) or its international equivalent, or, a Postgraduate Degree with a significant research thesis component, and;

b) Have confirmation from a supervisor available at ANU who is willing to supervise your research.

c) All applicants must meet the University's English Language Admission Requirements for Students.


$27,082 per annum (to be increased as per the 2019 AGRTP rate)
