The two-year Master of Machine Learning and Computer Vision (MMLCV) program is the first of its kind in Australia, and we provide students with specific knowledge that equips them with competitive professional and technical skills to build their own career in this rapidly growing field.

Students taking the course can expect to understand and solve computer vision and visual perception problems, conduct concept design experimental analysis to implement these techniques in real-world computer vision and machine learning applications. Computer Vision and Machine Learning technologies are expected to have major implications in the Retail, Automotive, Healthcare, Agricultural, Banking and Industrial industries.

This could include future inventions like self-driving cars, AI parking systems that guide drivers to a free parking spot, and AI mirrors that ‘try on’ clothes for you in shops. The technology could also assist in the healthcare sector, detecting illnesses and classifying patient’s conditions for early intervention. Machine learning and computer vision can also assist in farming, with equipment like animal facial recognition to track health of cattle or using drones to monitor crops.

Rankings

ANU is ranked top 5 in the world in the Computer Vision discipline, 24th in the world and first in Australia (QS World University Rankings), as well as hosting an arm of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Robotic Vision.

Facilities 

While studying with us you will have access to state of the art facilities such as the ANU supercomputer NCI, which is the Southern Hemisphere’s most highly-integrated supercomputer and file systems, and Australia’s highest performance research cloud. The computer is equipped with 1000 GPU units, and is home to one of the nation’s largest data catalogues.

ANU is also globally acknowledged for its research laboratories, UAV test centre, robotic arms, deep learning machine and 3D printers, all facilities that are available to Masters of Machine Learning and Computer Vision students. 

Degree Structure

The flexible structure of the program allows students of diverse technical backgrounds to gain specialist skills. The program welcomes students from a wide spectrum of cognate disciplines: Automation, Bioformatics Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronical Engineering, Information Science and Technology, Mathematics, Mechatronics, Physics, Signal Processing, Software Engineering, Statistics, Telecommunications and more.

The program will be led by a group of prominent world-class professors and researchers in the Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence disciplines.

Careers

This degree provides a pathway to many career opportunities both in Australia and overseas. Internship programs, students have had opportunities to work with organisations such as Seeing MachineNvidia, and CSIRO. Alumni from similar programs have been successful in careers working for organisations such as SamsungBaidu and Tencent.
