Kim Jackson Scholarship
Overview
The Kim Jackson Scholarship is to be awarded to a woman from a non-metropolitan area and enrolled in the ANU Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development) single or double degree for the duration of their undergraduate degree.
This exciting opportunity is valued at $20,000 per annum for each year of an ANU undergraduate engineering degree. The recipient must come from a non-metropolitan area to apply for this scholarhip.
Named after its donor, the award is funded by ANU alumna Kim Jackson. Kim studied a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce at ANU, graduating in 2002.
Kim is a strong advocate for how education has the power to change lives, and how technology has the ability to change the world for the better. She believes this scholarship will change the life of the recipient, enabling them to study engineering at ANU and engage in all facets of university life, and to continue that passion into a career in technology.
Kim grew up in the small Queensland town of Yeppoon, near Rockhampton. While at ANU, she spent university Christmas holidays working on the floor at an aluminium smelter in Central Queensland (earning her crane and forklift licences). Post-graduation, Kim moved into investment banking, where she put together multi-billion dollar deals and subsequently was a board director of infrastructure companies including the Sydney Desalination Plant, The Mater Hospital PPP, Transgrid and ElectraNet.
Kim now runs Skip Capital which is one of Australia’s largest private investment funds. Skip Capital invests in Australia’s most promising technology start-ups, several of which are founded by women. Skip Capital has strong passion in the areas of data technology, health and wellness, as well as the future of water, waste, food and energy.
“I was always either the only or one of two females in a room. I just really want to change that,” said Kim.
She is passionate about supporting young women from rural and regional areas to pursue careers in technology.
