For over 30 years, Kent has focused on the intersection of technology, law, and policy. Since joining Google in 2006, he has led the company’s advocacy on competition, content, copyright, and privacy. He has worked with government leaders and regulators around the world and served as the first chair of the Global Internet Forum to Combat Terrorism. After overseeing the creation of Google’s AI Principles in 2018, he became chair of the company’s AI Responsibility Council.

Kent will engage in a conversation with staff, students and partners at the ANU providing a behind-the-scenes look at how Google is thinking about AI, its risks, and its potential. This presentation will focus on how Kent and his teams work with private and public sector partners to navigate tough questions related to fragmentation, AI deployment, and more.

Questions will be welcome from event attendees and a fireside chat hosted by Professor Katherine Daniell, Director School of Cybernetics, will include ANU leaders Kate Henne, Director of RegNet, Johanna Weaver, Director Tech Policy Design Centre and Andrew Meares, Futures Lead at the School of Cybernetics.
