ANU alumnus and Google software engineer, Nigel Tao visited ANU yesterday to share his ‘quote of the day’ diary entries and provide insight into what it is like to work for the multinational internet giant.

Over 220 students and staff packed into the Chemistry Theatre to hear Nigel speak about his ‘quotes of the day’, a new year’s resolution that turned into a three year habit.

“I realised one day that I spend a lot of my time reading, whether its emails, web pages, design documents, and noticed I was literally learning something new every day,” Nigel said.

“I started collecting little snippets of the best thing, or most interesting thing, from my day. Sometimes they were things that I didn’t always agree with, but were something that made me think.”

Valley Mein from the Google Sydney Office also gave a presentation, with information on what Google are currently working on, their mission as well as the internships available at Google and graduate employment opportunities for ANU students.

Adam, another ANU alumnus Googler, Valley and Nigel fielded a range of questions about their programs, and what to expect when working at Google.
