The ACT Government’s new $10.8 million funding for a Renewable Energy Innovation Fund will provide great opportunities for ANU to further partner with industry to develop clean energy storage and distribution systems.
ANU Energy Change InstituteDirector Professor Ken Baldwin welcomed the funding announcement by the ACT Government, and said the University already had a strong track record of commercial engagement with industry.
“This new ACT government initiative provides exciting opportunities for ANU to partner with industry and other partners to super-charge efforts in distributed battery storage and to develop the technology to build a strong renewable-based electricity sector in the ACT,” Professor Baldwin said.
“It will also align perfectly with the Federal Government’s new innovation package, which is designed to translate research into commercial outcomes.”
He said ANU was already conducting world-leading research into the integration of solar PV (photovoltaics) into electricity networks, including solar forecasting and the control and optimisation of electricity grids and micro-grids.
“The Renewable Energy Innovation Fund, combined with growing expertise in integrating storage systems, will enable ANU and the ACT to become global contributors to the assimilation of renewables into energy systems,” he said.
