Professor Bob Williamson from the Australian National University Research School of Computer Science has recently been named fellow of the Australian Mathematical Society.

To become a Fellow of the Society a member must have demonstrated a high level of attainment or responsibility in an area of mathematics and to have made a substantial contribution to mathematics or to the profession of mathematician or to the teaching or application of mathematics.

Professor Williamson says he is delighted to be honoured in this manner by the Australian mathematical society.

“Modern engineering is impossible without mathematics and I have found many advances in pure mathematics eventually find their way to a useful application, It has an intrinsic interest for its beauty and the opportunity for creativity that it offers. Mathematics offers us a chance to participate in the eternal; real things come and go - a theorem is forever.”
