Professor Saman Halgamuge has been appointed as new Director of the Research School of Electrical, Energy and Materials Engineering.
Professor Halgamuge joins ANU from the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Melbourne, where he has held leadership roles that include the Associate Dean - International for the Melbourne School of Engineering.
Professor Halgamuge is an internationally-recognised expert in data engineering, and was listed by ISI as a highly-cited researcher in 2012-2015 for his work in mechatronics and biomedical engineering.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt congratulated Professor Halgamuge on his appointment.
“On behalf of the University, I congratulate Professor Halgamuge on his appointment and welcome him to the ANU community,” Professor Schmidt said.
“A vibrant, visible and world-class engineering school is central to the mission of ANU in the 21st Century.
“The Dean of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, Elanor Huntington, and I have entrusted Professor Halgamuge with implementing a strategic vision to continue to develop ANU engineering into one of the world’s best contemporary engineering schools.”
Professor Schmidt also thanked outgoing Director Professor Robert Mahony for his work to build the reputation and excellence of the ANU Research School of Electrical, Energy and Materials Engineering.
