ANU Computer Science Alumni, Mr Andrew Wrigley has been selected from over 4,000 applicants worldwide as a Schwarzman Scholar for 2018/2019.

The competitive program, funded by American Stephen Schwarzman, offers students a one year Master program in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Mr Wrigley graduated in July 2017 with Honours and the University Medal in Computer Science.  He was a New Colombo Plan Scholar and attended the National University of Singapore in 2016.

“My ANU experience was life changing both in and out of the classroom, and I’m extremely excited to be continuing my academic and professional journey in China”, Mr Wrigley said.

“The Schwarzman Scholars program provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build lasting connections with world-class leaders, mentors and fellow scholars.”

“I will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese language, culture and politics and ultimately, I hope to leverage this knowledge in my work as an entrepreneur.”

Dean of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, Professor Elanor Huntington congratulated Mr Wrigley on his achievement.

“It is heartening to see that our best and brightest choose to pursue and succeed in a diversity of paths. We celebrate that diversity across both industry, research, humanitarian and entrepreneurial pursuits.”

“The program will see Mr Wrigley stand with a long line of ANU graduates who are globally aware leaders, and on behalf of the College we congratulate him and wish him every success in China and throughout his future.”

The twelve-month scholarship will cover all expenses in China including tuition, accommodation, equipment and travel. The program also places emphasis on networking, internships and immersion within China’s rich culture.
